Giants Extend General Manager Joe Schoen With New Multi-Year Deal
The New York Giants have agreed to a multi-year contract extension with general manager Joe Schoen, securing his position after months of uncertainty about his future. The team announced the agreement on Thursday, though contract length and financial terms were not disclosed.
The decision follows the Giants' hiring of head coach John Harbaugh four months earlier. Schoen participated in the front-office process that brought Harbaugh, who previously coached the Baltimore Ravens for 18 seasons and won Super Bowl XLVII in 2012.
During Schoen's tenure, the Giants allowed running back Saquon Barkley to enter free agency in 2024. Barkley signed with the Philadelphia Eagles and recorded 2,005 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns in the 2024 season. The Giants also signed quarterback Daniel Jones to a four-year, $160 million contract in 2023; Jones was later released after the team posted a 9-25 record over the subsequent two seasons.
Among other roster moves, Schoen orchestrated a 2024 draft-day trade for edge rusher Brian Burns and selected quarterback Jaxson Dart at No. 25 overall in the 2025 draft. Four days before the 2026 draft, the Giants traded defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence to the Cincinnati Bengals for the No. 10 pick, used to select offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa. Schoen will now oversee the continued development of young players including Dart, Mauigoa, wide receiver Malik Nabers, running back Cameron Skattebo, and linebackers Arvell Reese and Abdul Carter.
