Heel Turn: New Day leave WWE, Death Riders' influence on Will Ospreay grows, hottest storyline and more
New Day Duo Kingston, Woods Exit WWE
Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods left WWE on Saturday after a long run that included four tag team championship reigns as a duo and eight with Big E. The New Day held the tag team titles for a record 483 days and remained fan favorites before turning heel after their title win at WrestleMania 41. Woods' injury disrupted the storyline, leading Kingston to team with Grayson Waller without winning gold.
WWE also released Tonga Loa and JC Mateo in recent cuts. Reactions poured in from wrestlers across promotions, positioning Kingston and Woods as top free agents. Their departure caps a prominent era for one of WWE's most decorated tag teams.
In Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, El Grande Americano and Original El Grande Americano build toward a mask-vs.-mask match at Rey de Reyes on May 30 in a no-disqualification bout. The rivals clashed at WWE's Royal Rumble on Jan. 31, 2026, where Original eliminated El Grande Americano. A contract signing on Saturday saw El Grande Americano's girlfriend Andrea Bazarte suspended, followed by the Creed Brothers putting him through a table in support of Original.
Darby Allin defended the AEW World Championship against Brody King on Saturday, winning with two Coffin Drops after avoiding a barrier crash. Allin improved to 2-0 as champion following his victory over MJF last month and Tommaso Ciampa the prior week. Kevin Knight, fresh off defending the TNT Championship against MJF, earns the next title shot against Allin on Wednesday after both men endorsed him as contender.
NXT promoted Blake Monroe, Ethan Page, Fallon Henley, Je’Von Evans, Joe Hendry, Lainey Reid, Oba Femi, Ricky Saints, Sol Ruca and Trick Williams to the main roster since the new year. WWE and The CW Network announced NXT premium live events, including Stand & Deliver, The Great American Bash and Deadline, will air on broadcast television. ESPN will stream them via its ESPN Unlimited App. WWE Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative Shawn Michaels stated The CW has raised the profile of up-and-coming Superstars. CW President Brad Schwartz called the ESPN partnership a next step, expanding to over 800 hours of live sports annually.
Will Ospreay trained with the Death Riders after Jon Moxley invited him to strike him with a chair. At New Japan Pro-Wrestling's Dontaku event, Ospreay teamed with Henare and Great-O-Khan to win the NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Championship from Bishamon. After Callum Newman retained the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, he urged Ospreay-dubbed "Death Rider Billy"-to attack Shingo Takagi, prompting a Hidden Blade strike. Ospreay returns to AEW Dynamite later this week.
