Alabama Crimson Tide guard Aden Holloway arrested on marijuana possession charges
University of Alabama men's basketball guard Aden Holloway was arrested on Monday in Tuscaloosa, charged with first-degree possession of marijuana and failure to affix a tax stamp. He was booked into Tuscaloosa County Jail at 9:48 a.m. and released at 10:45 a.m. after posting $5,000 bond.[1][2]
A search of Holloway's apartment uncovered approximately 2.1 pounds of marijuana packaged in plastic bags, prepackaged portions and vacuum-sealed bags, according to a complaint cited by ESPN. Authorities also found $400 in a jacket and noted smaller cash denominations indicative of sales.[1]
Prosecutors reported evidence of drug transactions on Holloway's phone, including text messages from individuals planning to meet "after the season."[1]
The search warrant stemmed from complaints to police and included an examination of Holloway's trash.[1]
Holloway's attorney described the search as unconstitutional and stated he would fight to suppress the evidence in court.[1]
Holloway, a 20-year-old guard, transferred to Alabama from Auburn in May 2024 ahead of the 2024-25 season.[3] As a freshman at Auburn in 2023-24, he appeared in 33 games, averaging 4.3 points, 1.5 assists and 1.0 rebound per game while shooting 42.6% from the field.[4]
On April 17, 2024, the NCAA Division I Council voted to remove marijuana from the list of banned substances for championships and postseason football, eliminating penalties for positive tests.[5]
