Five NFL Teams Reach 0-4, Matching League Record
Five NFL teams sit winless through four weeks of the season, tying a league record that has been reached only seven times and matching a mark last seen in 2019. Miami, Tennessee, Tampa Bay, Houston and the Los Angeles Chargers have all opened 0-4, an unusually crowded cellar this deep into the schedule.
Some of the struggles track with expectations. Miami is in the midst of a rebuild and is carrying a record $184 million in dead money on its salary cap this season, while Tennessee's winless start follows back-to-back three-win campaigns. The other three are harder to explain: Tampa Bay entered the year as the betting favorite to win the NFC South, and both Houston and the Chargers reached the playoffs a year ago. It marks only the third time in NFL history that two playoff teams from the previous season have both started 0-4, following Atlanta and Denver in 1999 and the Los Angeles Raiders and New York Jets in 1992. bet on biathlon online
The nature of the losses varies sharply. Tampa Bay has dropped four one-score games, and its minus-20 point differential is the fifth-best mark ever for a team at 0-4, bettered only by the 2011 Minnesota Vikings since. The Chargers' outlook is bleaker, with a league-worst-tied minus-39 point differential. Houston's collapse has been especially bitter: the Texans led in the final two minutes in three of their four losses, including Sunday's 34-30 defeat to Dallas, when the Cowboys scored the winning touchdown with 40 seconds remaining. Only the 2016 Chargers have lost three games in a season's first four after holding fourth-quarter leads in each; the 2013 Buccaneers and 2011 Vikings are the only other Super Bowl-era teams to open 0-4 despite leading at some point in the fourth quarter three times. Houston quarterback C.J. Stroud has avoided throwing an interception through the four losses, making him the first starting quarterback since 1950 - when such records began - to go 0-4 to begin a season without one.
At the opposite end, three teams remain unbeaten at 4-0: Kansas City, Minnesota and a third club carrying the league's best record. Kansas City and Minnesota reached that mark after missing the playoffs in 2025, the first time two non-playoff teams from the prior year have both started 4-0 since the Chiefs and New Orleans Saints did so in 2013. The disparity sets up a season where several marquee franchises face an uphill climb toward playoff contention, while this year's surprise contenders look to sustain their early form through the back half of the schedule.
